physical charm of building, great location tepid shower water afternoon through evening, no electricity after midnight, limited staff supervision to solve problems, safety issue of outer door propped open, and overfull, outdated electric strip within room
Very good value. Great breakfast. Decor excellent. Very very friendly and helpful staff. Loved the adaptation of the old building. When we raised the blinds to see the snow falling the windows were full of cobwebs and dead bugs. Horrible looking. Obviously had not been cleaned for a long time. We FINALLY got a receipt for our bill but were initially told that the hotel could not tell us what we payed
The history, staff and breakfast was outstanding. We will be back to spend more time in the near future. Plan on sitting outside on the patio. Great relaxing atmosphere. A wedding here would be nothing less than spectacular.
The bathrooms were so clean and all of the snacks were amazing!
Everything in downtown and historic Winston-Salem was in walking distance. The front desk associates that worked the evening of our check-in were so friendly and had excellent dining suggestions. The room was amazing and had a great history. The decor was clean, fresh, and not cluttered. The amenities in the bathroom were really nice too. I cant wait to return. NA- everything was great
Great location, fun vibe & activities, grand rooms, and almost all the staff members were extremely friendly and courteous. I really was in shocked with how dirty this hotel is. When you walk in you expect nothing but an amazing experience. I first noticed the level of uncleanliness when we checked into our room. Walking into the room you were amazed by how grand and beautiful it was designed and put together. We walked over to the desk and night stands and there was layer of dust all over it. The baseboards were the same way. I thought maybe this room had not been used in a while. Then we went down to the lobby where there is a puzzle on the coffee table with the couches. It was full of crumbs and dirt. If the hotel had been slightly busy this would make sense but it wasn't nor did it appear to be fresh crumbs and grease marks. The next morning we had breakfast and the restaurant in the lobby. The hostess was very friendly, our waitress wasn't at first but she came around. There appears to be huge coffee spatters all over the wall on the left hand side of the restaurant. It's extremely noticeable and behind the booths that look directly at the kitchen again layers of dust. So sad to see an amazing hotel look this dirty. Just makes you wonder what else may be going on
The Hawthorne Inn is conveniently located by Baptist Hospital and has a shuttle to and from for visitors. They have a complimentary breakfast, which is has the basics for a morning meal. The room was spacious, with a desk, microwave, and refrigerator. It was a great hotel for business purposes. The gym was lacking in equipment/weights, and the breakfast buffet was lacking.
The location was perfect for walking to Old Salem and downtown to activities. The welcome center around the corner was manned by 2 awesome ladies who went out of their way to get us info! Great restaurants within walking distance! Included breakfast was unbelievable! NA
Beds were super comfy, the view from the room was nice, staff was friendly. the breakfast wasn't great, but it was free, so no loss.
Breakfast was very excited.
I liked the pool area and the comfortable beds. My boyfriend liked the breakfast buffet. I love that pets are welcome at no extra charge. The dressers were broken and there was no mini fridge. Last time we stayed there was a mini fridge so it was a bit of an inconvenience. My daughter didn't like the breakfast options. I feel there should be more kid friendly options like pop tarts or breakfast bars. Toilet was loud.
Heard people in the hallway. Families had kids and they were playing and crying. Also the elevator was very slow. Had to use the stairs. Had dingy carpets.
