This cozy, detached 1br/1ba cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood in charming Washougal. We are a 20 min drive from PDX, 30 min from downtown Portland and at the gateway of the Columbia River Gorge. We are happy to host well behaved dogs and cats. Guests will enjoy their own full kitchen, bathroom with shower, queen size bed, and laundry. Roku TV and wifi are provided. Train whistles are outlawed within city limits but you will hear the frequent rumble of rolling stock as the BNSF Fallbridge sub runs directly behind the property. We have recently (as of May 2021) updated the cottage with with new kitchen appliances and quartz countertops as well as painting the entire unit, adding a new dinette set, couch and Roku TV and other cosmetic improvements. In June 2023 we added a front walkway with lighting and private patio with furniture and a gas grill. The cottage is located behind the main house on a.3 acre lot on a quiet street. Outside, guests will have access to off street parking for one car (no RVs), a private enclosed patio and gas grill. Inside you will find tv, wifi, coffee maker, microwave and window unit a/c in addition to basic amenities. There is a deluxe queen bed in the bedroom. Insulated walls and double pane windows help muffle the sound of trains which pass behind the property. Most guests report that they are not bothered by the train noise or get used to it quickly. We ask that pets traveling with you be supervised at all times. We are generally here most of the time as we both work from home. As frequent travelers, we understand the desire for space and will not infringe on guests' privacy. On the other hand, we enjoy meeting people and would be glad to have a drink or socialize as the occasion arises. And we are always happy to answer questions or address any needs that may come up during your stay. We like the small town atmosphere coupled with the close proximity to both Portland city amenities and the beautiful serenity of the Columbia River Gorge. You can walk to downtown Washougal for coffee, drinks and restaurants. You'll need a car to get around here. We're a quick drive from PDX and the Gorge. There is plenty of street parking on D street and we offer one off street spot alongside the house next to the cottage (not RV accessible).

The nook is a quiet, serene spot for reading or sleeping, and the kitchen is completely furnished to accommodate serious cooks, as well as those seeking a vacation from cooking. It is an idyllic location with many eagles, heron, hawks, and deer, a large 20' deep swimming hole and year-round waterfall. The land surrounding the Cottage and across the river is private and protected. The temperate climate is never too hot or too cold. [Note: beach is shared by residents of nearby home, but they are quiet and respectful of our guests. Please note also that beach fires and fishing from the beach are not allowed (there is great fishing just 1/2 mile downriver, on the other side of the Salmon Falls bridge).] This 28.5 acre retreat includes a large and rare stand of old-growth Douglas fir, Western cedar, hemlock and maple; some of which are estimated to be more than 300 years old. Eva's descendants steward the land and maintain the forest with an eye to future generations' enjoyment. You'll have access to four trails along the property, so be sure to bring your hiking boots! A good supermarket, drugstore, and other services are about 14 miles away in the town of Washougal. The location provides easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more. The Washougal is one of only two completely unpolluted rivers in the region. It offers fine fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking as it flows into the mighty Columbia River just a few miles to the south. All manner of outdoor activities are close by, yet the setting itself is secluded and free from the noise and distractions of everyday life. * Please note that there is no cell service at this home. ** There are outdoor security cameras on this property, however there are NO security cameras inside the home or on the hot tub. The outdoor security system is maintained for unwanted guests and the owners only view the driveways to make sure the unit does not go above occupancy.
