Restaurant was super expensive and not very good.
Lovely place and quiet location. The breakfast was included, which I did not expect, and was quite good! All of the staff was extremely helpful and kind. Highly recommend this, if you don't mind commuting a bit to and from town. A little far from town, but definitely manageable with the bikes and shuttles/taxis. Would have liked it more if they had an option to rent bikes one-way into town (like another drop off station so you could just take a taxi or shuttle back to the inn later at night)
Beautiful hotel. Excellent accommodation and staff
Lovely and comfortable inn. Beautiful forested location. Stayed at the Summerhouse in a very spacious studio. Staff was tremendously helpful. Restaurant was quiet and friendly. Food was goodnight
we were very happy staying at the lake house. we would stay there again it is so close to everything.the only thing i would change is to have a room in the back of the hotel you can here everything that is going on outside.they wash the streets down every moring after bar time.
We booked our stay at the LakeView Hotel on Mackinac Island about 4 weeks ahead of time and were delighted with the choice. It was a very homey atmosphere, with lovely rooms and all the modern conveniences that we would look for in a less historic place. The beds were very comfortable, and the service was impeccable. It was overall a very positive and relaxing experience. We highly recommend this hotel.
Breakfast made me sick
Fantastic location across the main street from water and ferries. Nice view of water and the action on main. Could be such a cute little room... but oh my that wallpaper!!! I can't imagine there was ever a time period in which anyone would have thought it was good choice. Using the same decorating sense as they did in their lobby would make the room more enjoyable.
Good location in downtown, just down from the market, not far from the main boat docks. The bed was comfortable and had hard and soft pillows. The internal-courtyard-type deck on the second floor was a nice place to enjoy carry out pizza from the pizzeria next door and a bottle of wine from the market for dinner. There were a few hairs in the tub and a linty washcloth in the bathroom, plus a smart water bottle under the armoire. This gave the room the feeling of being not well cleaned.
We loved our trip to Mackinac Island, and the Island House Hotel was just a short walk from all the restaurants and shops. Our room was clean and comfortable. The service was okay, but not particularly friendly at the front desk. The best part was the free breakfast buffet in a lovely dining room overlooking Lake Huron.
The best view and perfect location. Just out of town enough to not be crowded, but close enough to enjoy the buzz of town.
The Island House is easy to reach on foot from the ferry piers in Mackinac, and they have porters who take your luggage to the hotel from the ferry (and back when you leave). It's an easy walk into the main 'downtown' area of the island, yet you are far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be able to escape it at will. Bike rentals are available right on the premises. The hotel has an excellent view over the marina and the Straits of Mackinac, with plenty of veranda and lawn seating out front to watch the world go by. Our room ended up being somewhat small and without a view, but it did have air conditioning, which during our trip in July was invaluable, as Mackinac was unusually hot. The larger rooms with the marina views did not appear to have A/C. The pool is small, and the water somewhat frigid, but the locals who stay here don't seem to mind. The one drawback I would mention is that there seemed to be no control over guests with loud children making noise well into the night ...
We stayed here for the amiance and found it to be a reasonable alternative in an expensive locale. The rooms were functional but the location was wonderful. The morning breakfast was also the best of the trip in a beautiful dining area. I also enjoyed sitting out on the porch and watching the world go by! Very relaxing.
The dorm room roof was awful. SMALL space to stand up straight. Also, the 25 steps up because the elevator does NOT go to the 4th floor. No ice either on the 4th floor. Very HOT and HUMID the window shaker unit worked 24 x 7 just to circulate the air. Will stay at the Lake View next time or another hotel
I would stay in the hotel again. The breakfast (included) was very good as was the location. Our room was small and located in a rather difficult area. The elevator did not go up to the floor where our room was so we needed to go up a couple of flights of stairs to get to it. But other than that, it was a pleasant stay.
Loved the front porch. Spent much of our in between times sitting in the rocking chairs watching the water and boats. Very calming.
The location was close enough to easily walk to from the Arnold Ferry dock, and our bags were delivered to our room from the ferry. Lawn chairs, a firepit and bike rentals were on the front lawn with a lovely view of the harbor. The Island House is close to restaurants and shopping, but quieter than being in the middle of 'downtown'. Fudge at the check in desk and the included breakfast buffet were delicious. The lobby and rocking chairs on the front porch were comfortable places to relax and the indoor pool and hot tub were hidden in a quiet area behind the hotel.
The room was small, old and out of date. But that isn't a complaint. The Island House is a very old hotel on an island that prides itself on minimizing the impact of the 20th and 21st century. I'm alway mystified by seeing reviews of this hotel and others on Mackinac Island that complain about amenities. Of course the amenities are old-fashioned! This isn't Las Vegas! The hotel was delightful, and we enjoyed sitting on the veranda and looking out on the lawn and the lake. The location is splendid, just a few steps from the ferry docks. Breakfast in the restaurant was good, and the hotel was cooperative in helping us get to the somewhat distant restaurant we went to for dinner. The lobby was classy and like something out of the 19th century. We had a great time. There were downsides. The room was small and the floor a bit sloped, Internet connectivity was iffy and slow, and the window looked out on a walkway that had people walking by. There were much better rooms, it appeared, but we...
Wonderful location, nice comfortable rooms and staff. If you cannot afford the Grand Hotel, this is a nice option. Great views of marina and nice breakfast. If you keep the windows open, you can even smell fudge from the shops down the street.
THIS HOTEL IS IN AN IDEAL LOCATION FROM THE DOCKS AND DOWNTOWN AREA. VERY CLOSE TO THE FORT AND VISITOR'S CENTER AND WITHIN SHORT WALKING DISTANCE TO MARKET ON THE CORNER FOR QUICK SUPPLIES. THE HUGE FRONT PORCH HAS PLENTY OF ROOM FOR GUESTS TO SIT AND AN EXCELLENT VIEW OF THE MARINA. ALSO, THE SITTING AREA WITH THE CHIMMEA AND S'MORES KITS ADDS A NICE TOUCH IN THE EVENINGS. BREAKFAST BUFFET WAS GREAT. HAD BEEN TO HIS HOTEL MANY YEARS AGO. IT WAS NICE TO GO BACK.
We(2adults + 2 ten year olds) stayed for 3 nights. Great location-close to downtown area. Bike rental right in front of hotel is very convenient. The included breakfast was awesome - pancakes(blueberry one day and banana another), frenchtoast, scrambled eggs, french toast, oatmeal, cereal, homemade pastries, fresh fruit, juice, coffee-great selection. The hot tub was closed most of the time and the pool looked odd-greenish. Our room was a little small, but we knew it was going to be ahead of time. It would have been great to have a desk or a table and chair to be able to use. Check-in and out were fine- friendly staff.
