Friendly staff, food was good, bars were great, the beach is beautiful, the room was great. The Royal Club is a nice touch. We waited a while for our luggage and no rules were implemented for holding chairs at the pool or palapas at the beach so we often didn't get one.
The people's kind was excellent
I stayed at the occidental for my honeymoon. I was married at a different hotel (Manchebo) right before this stay and then moved over to the occidental for the honeymoon. The pool was wonderful. The water was warm, swim up bar had very friendly staff and the drinks never ended. The beach is very close to the hotel and if you didn't plan on leaving the hotel, it was a perfect distance. There was also a bad on the beach within feet from the water which was very useful. They let you rent these rafts to float on ( which very very relaxing) however they needed to be returned by 4pm or they charged you 76 dollars??? I didn't like the hotel as an overall. The beach front view was a partial view (they all are) unless you paid for a suite. That was a huge bummer for me. I paid the extra money to see the beach but had to look OVER the palm trees to see some ocean. The food was HORRIBLE. So bad that on my last night I left the hotel to pay for dinner because I was so sick and tired of th horrible food. For an all inclusive, this is a huge let down. There are much better hotels on ththe island with much better food than the occidental. Wifi: their "free wifi" is only in the lobby and you only get one hour. I had 30 people staying at various hotels and I desperately needed to communicate with all of them to arrange tours etc so I ended up paying an extra 70 dollars to have wifi in my room for the week. Then, it was spotty at best. I had to restart my phone over and over again just to get it to work. (I have an iPhone 6plus, not an old phone by any means) When we checked in, they gave me and my husband honeymoon t shirts, but then gave us a room with two twin beds. This is after they went to check on the room! This is my honeymoon, and you knew it was, but you put is in different beds??? So we had to switch rooms To an even worse view. It was frustrating. The Riu next door was so much better last year. Better food and better views. Same money. I would stay there over occidental any day.
The beddings where not clean and the rooms are small.
Good location, spacious rooms, good bathroom and hotel areas, nice casino, nice lobby, the fruit and the croissants was good. Beds and pillows sucks, food sucks, juices from concentrate, A/A and DVD player doesn't work and they never sent anybody, rooms door are like paper. No KIDS area in the pool!!!!!!. Aaaaand free WiFi just works at the lobby area and sucks, if you want WiFi in other areas you have to pay a lot per day and if you pay the service still poor. Guys 2015 you need better WiFi or people will not stay at the hotel!!!!!!
All Inclusive Food selection could have been better.
Loved The Whole experiencience! Staff, location, amenities, restaurants, you name it I'll be coming back for sure!
The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and attend to your every need.
"Island View" does not mean a view of the private island. The front desk told me this means an island view as in Aruba is and island and you can view it.
Great location in the heart of Oranjastad. Easy walk to great restaurants. Very clean. The staff were wonderful, especially Berlinda who helped us with restaurant reservations. There is no real beach unless you ferry out to the private island. The island is pretty, but windy. There were no beach chairs available and even more limited if you wanted one in the shade. At the Marina, there is a modest sized pool but no beach chairs available in the mid afternoon. There is music playing all day, so there is no place in the resort for peace and quiet except your room. The room was modest sized, but a bit dated. It was quite expensive.
The staff was friendly and remembered us during our stay. The room was comfortable and well equipped. There were many activities on premise which kept us busy, and the private island was beautiful. We enjoyed a couples massage and dinner for two package which was excellent. The location was right at a shopping mall and plaza with plenty to do, but it was further away from the main hotel area where the nightlife and many of our friends were staying. Taxi trips to meet our friends or go out started to add up over our stay.
The location is excellent, and access to activities through the city was very simple. Staff is very courteous, rooms were well maintained and clean. The pool area had DJ playing so loud that it was hindersome in the room in the afternoon and early evening. Pool is rather small and not enough places to relax during early evening hours. The rooms were pricey for the amenities provided. Staying at the Marriott on the west side of the island offers more amenities, larger room and less cost. But after all, it IS all about location, location, location, and the Rennaissance has it!
Wait staff was slow and not attentive at the bar at the hotel.
There was nothing I did not like! Love love love the private island!!!!! Very contemporary hotel . Love it!!! Nothing
Snorkeling was great! Loved the ocean views Drinks were reeeeeeeeeeeally weak Wife got food poisoning
Get a first floor room. Open your sliding door and your toes are in the sand. Drinks and food are decent. You will not go Hungry or thirsty. Lots of different options for snacks and food throughout the day. We loved taking long strolls on the beach. It's awesome that you have access to the Divi. Typical routine includes getting a drink at the bunker bar, walk down and sit by the pool to people watch, get a new drink (and maybe some chicken strips), continue the walk down the beach. Nice 10 minute walk to the divi... By that time you are ready for a new drink, grab one at the first bar. Continue the walk to the divi pool and beach area, people watch, lay in the sun, listen to a live band, grab another drink and take a stroll back to the Tam. Lots of activities. Book them early so you won't be directly in the sun. We did a snorkeling/snuba trip (booked at hotel). I would highly highly recommend. We did the ATV tours and it is by far the best way to see the island. We went to the natural pools, natural bridge, an old gold refinery, and a really neat rock formation. We went downtown. And it really only took us a few hours to get a good experience. We took a cab, which was fine... But we regret not using one of the hotels bikes to ride down. We aren't horribly athletic so we didn't want to commit to a bike ride downtown in a different country. However, we drove along a really nice, flat, bike path leading directly downtown... Wished right away we did the bikes. The Spa was awesome! We did massages and a body wrap.. So relaxed. Do not bring pants... You will not wear them. Bring some nicer shorts for dinner and you will be fine. Girls, sundresses and bathing suits... No need to get too fancy. always bring extra sunscreen, expensive to buy on the island. We had to leave. Palm grill was our least favorite restaurant... But fun and worth doing once.
This hotel is outstanding - I contacted the hotel direct and upgraded to the penthouse suite, which was fantastic - would definitely recommend it for a special occasion.
A beautiful beach, a luxurious room, a true getaway. Staff was attentive, helpful, yet unobstrusive. Just lovely spot. We liked that the hotel makes a real effort to be eco-friendly. Also, there is a mini-market on premises that is reasonable. Your service was especially helpful as I realized, at almost the last minute, that I had booked the wrong days. Just the noise from the dehumidifiers, so I turned them off at night.
